Sunderland have secured the signing of former West Bromwich Albion defender Billy Jones.

The 27-year-old is out of contract at the Hawthorns this summer and the Black Cats have acted quickly to bring him to the Stadium of Light.

Jones has signed a four-year deal on Wearside and admits he is looking forward to a new chapter in his career.

He told BT Sport: “I’m really happy to be here and I’m looking forward to getting back for pre-season and kicking on.

“I’ve played at the Stadium of Light a number of times, so I know what it’s about and what great backing the club has.

“I’ve come to the training ground today and it’s amazing. I knew I was signing for a massive club with everything in place to kick on up the league and carry on moving forward.”

Gus Poyet’s first summer signing is expected to one of several as he attempts to rebuild a squad that was so quickly thrown together by former boss Paolo Di Canio who bought 14 players last summer, most of which had little or no experience of English football.
