When it comes to No.3 selection I found this choice surprisingly easy. Gael Clichy is one of the fastest full-backs in the Premier League, Aleksander Kolorov offers the quality on the ball of a natural winger, but in terms of being the complete full-back package, neither can hold a candle to Kieran Gibbs.
Once again, injuries have dogged the England international’s season, but when fully fit, Gibbs has proved himself to be vital performer for the Gunners at both ends of the pitch.
Defensively, the 24 year-old has averaged an impressive 2.5 tackles and 1.9 interceptions per match. But going forward, the Arsenal No.3’s one assist this season doesn’t represent his vitality to the Gunners game-plan.
Adventurous, imaginative, exciting on the ball, exceptionally quick and fully committed to joining the attack, the natural width Gibbs provides allows the likes of Santi Cazorla and Lukas Podolski to take up more prominent, central positions.
We’ll be hoping he can provide a likewise service for this select XI.
