Tottenham Hotspurs have become the surprise favourites to sign Manchester United's out of favour striker Javier Hernandez.

The 26-year-old is currently on a season long deal at Real Madrid, but the Spanish Giants have turned down the offer of signing him permanently once his loan deal expires.

It has become more evident as the season has progressed that despite the Mexican's wish to stay at Old Trafford, Red Devils' boss Louis van Gaal has other ideas. The pair have never seen eye to eye and it has been understood that the Dutchman has no intentions of keeping him on, despite the Mexican saying he has no understanding of this.

Hernandez has a year left on his current contract with United and across the continent he has scored eight goals this season for Carlo Ancelotti's side.

Earlier in the month, 'Little Pea' all but cemented his exit by criticising his United by gaffer saying he was too "rigid" and had a "very strict discipline," whilst praising Ancelotti for being more like his previous Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

While these comments were probably made out of spite at his current situation they didn't help his case in coming back to Manchester, and other Premier League sides have picked up their interest in signing up the striker.

With Real Madrid rejecting the chance to sign him it seems Tottenham will see off competition from fellow Premier League sides West Ham, Southampton and Everton to welcome the striker to White Heart Lane. Spurs are reportedly planning a £7.5million bid for Hernandez which is likely to be accepted as soon as the season is over for him at Real Madrid.

At the Bernabeu he hasn't had the best of seasons compared to some of the times he has had at Manchester United. Hernandez has only starting six games and mainly coming off the bench in his 31 appearances but over the season he has racked up an impressive 81.9% pass rate in all competitions.

The Mexican striker already has a proven record in the Premier League and alongside main man Harry Kane, it could make quite a partnership. Hernandez has scored 37 goals in 102 appearances in the Premier League already and has proven that he is good at coming off the bench as the "super sub."

With Emmanuel Adebayor looking likely to leave White Heart Lane in the summer transfer window, Hernandez could be the signing Tottenham are looking for, but the striker does have some weaknesses.

He has a very different style to Kane as he doesn't usually get involved in the build-up of goals and is isn't going to press the play from the front. Hernandez is unlikely to want to be a "super sub" but he is likely to be Kane's understudy and perhaps sometimes a partner.

Spurs have struggled with scoring goals in recent years and the 26-year-old certainly has a good knack of doing that. It seems like he could be a great fit at Spurs and a bit of healthy competition between strikers is never a bad thing.

Sign him up, Pochettino!
