Manchester United and Newcastle fought out what was as entertaining as you'd imagine a 0-0 to be. Yeah, there were chances, but there was also a good 85 minutes of nothing.

But hey, here are the THREE things we learned from those 5 minutes of excitement and the other 85 around them ...

McClaren never gives up

When McClaren arrived at Old Trafford with his fast becoming comical hair you were pushed to ask yourself: ‘Why won't he just shave it off?’, but then you remember McClaren doesn't give up. No, Steve McClaren has been sacked by England, Wolfsburg, and Derby County. He's not a man to give up the good fight.

Memphis isn't Ronaldo

Manchester United fans were an excited bunch following Memphis' sacking of Brugge, but as they say, context is everything. The winger didn't look quite as deadly today and van Gaal may have to be patient with his new purchase.

Man United still need Carrick

Even with a Schweinsteiger + Schneidelin midfield duo that no one has yet successfully managed to make a good pun from – and boy they've tried – United still missed their old reliable. Carrick had started both Man United's previous league games and the feeling is that he going to have to start the majority of those remaining if Louis van Gaal's team are to make it a successful season.
