The Spurs have made 14-goal scorer Benteke their main summer priority, but may have to compete with Manchester City and Arsenal, who have also shown interest in the striker.
The White Hart Lane club is planning a radical restructuring of its forward line, and reports hint that Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor could both leave in the summer. With a possibility of three new players in their striking unit, Benteke tops the Spurs shortlist for summer acquisitions.
The Belgian ace has made an impressive debut in the Premier League, and according to Starsport, 22-year-old Benteke has decided to leave Villa before next season.
Paul Lambert’s side will have an even more difficult time holding onto Benteke if they go down, and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy plans to make an offer they can’t refuse of £15million. The bid is more than double the £7million fee Villa paid for the striker.
Levy hopes that striking an early deal with Villa will prevent a bidding war for the star, with City and Arsenal.
Brazilian international Leandro Damiao remains a target for the Spurs, who could sell £5million Adebayor and 18-goal Defoe to support a double move for Benteke and Damiao.
