Barcelona are ready to move for Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen as they look to further their summer rebuilding plans, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The Catalans are on the verge of announcing Liverpool talisman Luis Suarez as their marquee arrival ahead of the new season, and are now ready to address defensive concerns.

With club idol Carles Puyol having brought his glittering career to an end, Barca’s already shaky defence is considerable weaker than it once was.

Vertonghen has been a mooted target for them for a while, but their interest was thought to have cooled.

However, it’s now understood that Luis Enrique wants the Belgian to partner Gerard Pique as he plots to improve on the Spaniards’ poor 2013/14 campaign.

The 27-year-old is thought to be ready to leave Spurs in search of Champions League football, and would surely jump at the chance to play at the Camp Nou.

Tottenham are unlikely to let him go on the cheap and would want around £20m as they plan their own moves, with Dejan Lovren an obvious replacement.
