Although the end of season memories may still be hurting most Spurs fans, they should not take away from what was an outstanding season for Pochettino's side.

The 2016/17 season is looking like it will be an enthralling one with the likes of Guardiola and Mourinho locking horns for the fist time in English football, but Spurs are likely to be a big threat to any sides with title aspirations.

Tottenham looked favourites to take the title for large proportions of the season before Leicester proved everyone wrong. With a few key additions to their already impressive side, Tottenham could make a real go of the Premier League next season.

However, to ensure that his side can go the distance next season, Pochettino will want to add players of real quality to his squad and in order to get them you have to pay.

Take a look at these FIVE players that Spurs could splash out on this summer, breaking their record transfer fee of £30m...

MICHY BATSHUAYI

Spurs look almost certain to secure the signature of the Marseille striker after he reportedly turned down £80k-a-week at West Ham and told Tottenham he wants to sign for them.

No official bid has been made for the Belgian yet, but Marseille have made it abundantly clear that they will accept nothing below the £31m, which was offered by London rivals, West Ham.

However, an impressive performance at the EURO 2016 could see that price tag rise considerably.

ANDRIY YARMOLENKO

Andriy Yarmolenko

Yarmolenko is someone who could really add to Spurs' already powerful attacking midfield.

The attacking mainstays of Spurs last season, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Eric Lamela, were superb throughout the 2015/16 campaign, but in order to compete in both the Premier League and the Champions League it is an area that needs more depth.

Yarmolenko is currently valued at around £25m, short of Spurs' record, but a bidding war with the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool will more than likely drive that price tag up and above £30m.

ALEXANDRE LACAZETTE

Alexandre Lacazette Lyon

The Frenchman was a surprise omission from the France squad for EURO 2016, with only Zlatan Ibrahimovic scoring more goals in Ligue 1 last season.

Reports in the Express claim that West Ham have submitted a fresh bid of £32m for the 25-year-old, so yet again Tottenham have competition from other Premier League rivals for a key signing.

Lacazette would state real intent from Pochettino to go on and win the title next season and would provide intense competition for star-man Harry Kane.

SAUL

An expensive move but what you would expect to be a superb deal for Tottenham whatever they would have to pay. Saul has been a shining light for Diego Simeone and his solo effort in the Champions League Semi-Final capped a superb season.

However, a new five-year contract for the youngster, signed this season, included a €80m release clause which would mean Spurs having to completely obliterate their record fee of £30m, though many would argue it would be more than worth it.

ROMELU LUKAKU

Norwich City v Everton - Barclays Premier League

Another one that could demand big spending from Daniel Levy and Co. but could prove to be season defining.

A move back to London for the Belgian is something that could well happen in the near future. He would be a key player in any Premier League side, therefore at Everton, who finished 11th last season, he may feel his talent is wasted.

Lukaku is sought after by his former club Chelsea and Italian giants Juventus, and has a rumoured asking price of around or above £50m.
