Well, Tottenham’s poorly kept secret is out, with Kevin Wimmer’s long-awaited move from 1.FC Koln to White Hart Lane having been confirmed this morning. An impressive centre-back with international experience and a long future ahead – he’s just 22 – the deal looks to be a good one for the Lilywhites.

However, despite sneaking into fifth on the final day of the campaign, Spurs have much work to do over the coming months if they’re to build a side capable of competing for the fabled top four finish, with depth needed across the pitch and replacements for flops also something to be considered.

So, here are FIVE potential additions to follow Wimmer to Tottenham this summer…

Kieran Trippier

While securing Danny Ings’ signature ahead of Liverpool appears unlikely, one relegated Burnley ace could be heading to White Hart Lane… Tripper. The right-back shone in the Championship with an amazing 14 assists as the Clarets gained promotion and has since impressed in the top tier – albeit the tally has fallen by 10.

Rather impressively Trippier has been a part of a backline that’s conceded the same quantity of goals as Spurs, even though Burnley have suffered the indignity of relegation, so he should, on paper, boost the Londoners’ goal difference tally – which would have been the weakest in the top seven had Liverpool not shipped six at Stoke.

Ezequiel Lavezzi

A £10.7m fee is said to have been ‘agreed’ between Spurs and PSG for the Argentine, although the longer this one drags on the less and less likely it is to happen. A bustling and versatile forward, Lavezzi appears to be well-suited to a Mauricio Pochettino team, with his energy and tenacity ideal in a high-pressing set-up.

The major drawbacks appear to be his age, 30, and a lack of killer-instinct in front of goal – he’s often been criticised for wayward finishing.

Yevhen Konoplyanka

As far as free agents go this summer, Konoplyanka is one of the better ones around. With his Dnipro side having missed out on Champions League qualification after their Europa League Final loss at the hands of Sevilla, it appears unlikely that the 25-year-old will be staying in his native Ukraine.

With pace and deadly delivery from the left flank, ‘Kono’ appears to be a decent option given his lack of fee, and although reports that a deal has been agreed seem to have been a little premature, it appears Spurs are genuinely interested.

Jackson Martinez

The subject of a North London tussle, Martinez could well be swapping sunny Portugal for the windswept streets of the English capital before long. With a goals to game ratio of around two in three since his 2012 arrival in Europe, the 28-year-old certainly has a decent track record, which hints that he may have what it takes to step out of a ‘lesser’ league and shine in one of the continent’s biggest divisions.

Andre Ayew

Another tempting freebie for Spurs to keep costs low while bolstering their ranks is Ayew. The pacey Ghana international is ready to leave Marseille following a relatively impressive Ligue 1 season, and seems to have his eye on the Premier League.

Able to play on either flank with the sort of straight-line speed that will trouble any defender, the African star may be a wise addition.
