Tottenham signing Lewis Holtby has revealed that he is over the moon to have joined the club.
Spurs completed a £1.5m deal for the German playmaker, having previously agreed to sign him on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Schalke were believed to be unwilling to let the midfielder leave during January, but the Londoners’ desire to conclude a swift deal allied with the 22-year-old’s willingness to join the club saw the deal completed.
Holtby says that he has no regrets at swapping the Bundesliga for the Premier League and is thrilled to be a Tottenham player:
“I have been living my dream for the past few days.” He is quoted by Sky Sports.
“I am playing at an absolute top club in the Premier League.
“The day the transfer went through, I left for London with just a small suitcase and a few hours later, I was already on the Tottenham training ground, getting the traditional kick up the backside from my new team mates by means of welcoming me.”
Holtby has made two appearances for Spurs so far, winning over many the club’s supporters in the process.
Although he admits that the English style of football is very different to that in Germany, he believes that he has the skills to adapt and become a key player at White Hart Lane:
“I realised immediately that the speed and the toughness really is different here to the Bundesliga,” he said.
“It’s no place for the faint-hearted and the referees don’t blow the whistle as often.
“The game is brutally hard, but that suits me and I really love it. I also loved my second game for Spurs, in which a dream goal from Gareth Bale meant I could celebrate my first win.”
