Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sign PSV Eindhoven winger Memphis Depay for a reported £20m fee, according to the Mirror. The Dutch winger has been on Mauricio Pochettino's radar since the summer and Spurs are looking to secure the deal before the window slams shut next week.

Spurs may have missed out on the 20-year-old before the season started, but they are now looking to fend off Manchester United, who the Mirror claim are also reportedly keen on his signature. Depay's noticeable World Cup performances for the Netherlands in the summer, as well as netting 11 times and assisting four in PSV's Eredivisie campaign this term, means his stock has risen even higher and he would be a major coup for Pochettino's side.

Depay twice came off the bench in the World Cup to score two important goals for Holland - the winger has kicked on from there, and quickly turned himself into an exceptionally talented player. In his three senior years with PSV, Depay has developed into one of Holland's hottest prospects, with his superb wing play and a real eye for goal to boot.

With Aaron Lennon looking more and more likely to depart the club, the Dutch international would be the perfect replacement for the 27-year-old, who has undoubtedly been an excellent servant for the Lilywhites since joining from Leeds United in 2005. Lennon has been heavily linked to a move away from White Hart Lane, with plenty of suitors from the Premier League interested in taking him - if the ex-England international does make the expected move away from north London, that will open the door wide open for Depay to come in and do the business.

Spurs have somewhat lacked raw pace in the wide areas this season, Nacer Chadli and Erik Lamela aren't exactly blessed with blistering speed, and Andros Townsend has been in and out of Pochettino's first-team plans - the flanks are certainly an area the Spurs boss would like to address, which would make Depay the ideal candidate for the job.

Spurs may have been knocked out of the FA Cup by Leicester City on the weekend, but they still have genuine hopes of reaching the top four, as well as securing a Capital One Cup final appearance. The Lilywhites travel to Bramall Lane on Wednesday, to face Sheffield United in the second-leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final. Spurs are undoubtedly in the driving seat after a 1-0 win at White Hart Lane secured a first-leg lead. Tottenham have also got their eyes on the Europa League - after progressing into the knockout stage, setting up a Round of 32 two-legged tie with Italian side Fiorentina.

Tottenham Hotspur will hope all their league and cup aspirations will give them the slight edge over Manchester United for his signature. The PSV ace may find himself utilised more at the Lane than Old Trafford, and he looks like the type of player Spurs are crying out for, in what is already a very talented squad. If Tottenham can secure the exciting young winger's services, he could potentially be the final piece of Pochettino's ever-improving jigsaw.
