Inter Milan are in talks regarding a deal to take Erik Lamela back to Italy from Tottenham next month, according to reports from The Express.

The Argentine ace was signed in a club record deal by Spurs from Roma over the summer, but has struggled to make any sort of impact during a difficult few months for the North London side.

Andre Villas-Boas – who was recently sacked – used the attacker sparingly, while it seems that new boss Tim Sherwood is also unconvinced by his abilities.

Despite his struggles in England, the 21-year-old is still highly rated in Italy after a fine spell in the capital with Roma.

Inter are currently at the front of the queue for his signature, with a potential loan deal thought to have been discussed with Lamela’s agent.

Juventus are also watching the situation, and may look to offer Mirko Vucinic to tempt Tottenham into selling.

Lamela – once dubbed the ‘new Lionel Messi’ – has struggled to settle in London, and is believed to be missing life in Serie A.

The versatile attacker shot to fame with River Plate in his homeland before joining Roma as a youngster in 2011.
