Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck has asked for a move to Tottenham Hotspur, according to MirrorFootball.
The 23-year-old is seeing his Old Trafford chances limited further with the imminent arrival of Real Madrid’s Angel Di Maria.
And Tottenham are thought to be interested in taking the England international off Louis van Gaal’s hands in either a permanent deal worth around £15million, or season-long loan.
However, despite United’s willingness to allow Welbeck to leave the club, they are equally reluctant to strengthen one of their Premier League rivals.
Welbeck has told the club that he wants a move to White Hart Lane and will not be prepared to complete a switch to the likes of Sunderland and Hull, who have both showed an interest in him this summer.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has placed Welbeck at the top of his hit list and is keen to get a deal completed before the transfer window closes on September 1.
Pochettino plans to play Welbeck as a central striker and will turn his attentions to QPR’s Loic Remy again should he fail to land the United man.
