USA national team manager Jurgen Klinsmann has said that Tottenham's defender Cameron Carter-Vickers could soon represent the national team.

The Spurs youngster captains the U20 American team despite being only 18, and the former White Hart Lane favourite reckons he'll move into the senior side before too long.

On a Facebook Q&A the German said:“Absolutely Cameron is in our picture.

"He’s a very exciting young player coming through the ranks, but he also needs to break into things slowly, get into the team and get some minutes, which he did the other day in a cup game.”

That cup game was Spurs' 5-0 victory over Gillingham in the EFL Cup in which he impressed, and so it seems as though he could be set for a bright future.

What's he all about then? We've got the lowdown right here...

Who is he?

Despite representing the United States he was actually born in Southend, which means he could still represent England at senior level should the FA try and go for him.

He has been at Spurs since 2009 and in those seven years has quickly worked his way up to be one of the most promising defenders the club has had for a number of years.

What are his strengths?

A six footer already, he's set to be a real physical presence at the back for both club and country whilst he also has good pace for a centre-half, which will be key in the Premier League.

He prefers to get in attackers' faces, too, and so that'll help him against strikers who particularly like a war up top rather than want to run in behind. He likes to get his foot in first in a challenge and his reading of the game is already very strong for a young defender.

What is his playing style?

He's quite aggressive in his play.

He won't give attackers much room to manoeuvre but is also happy to match them in a foot race. In terms of the modern way of playing the ball from the back, he looks pretty adept, and has demonstrated that he's more than happy to keep the ball at his feet and play under pressure.

He could be a real asset in the years to come for Spurs if he keeps it up.
