have confirmed that Brazil international midfielder Sandro successfully underwent knee surgery today, reports ESPN.

News of Sandro’s successful knee surgery after sustaining an injury during a 0-0 draw away to QPR at Loftus Road has been confirmed by Spurs’ official website and verified through Sandro’s twitter account. The player also posted pictures of his knee on instagram post-surgery.

Sandro, 23, has been a mainstay at White Hart Lane following Scott Parker’s lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury. He has since emerged as a key player in Spurs’ push for UEFA Champions League qualification through a Premier League place.

The midfielder connected with fans through his twitter account to speak about his injury. "Sorry guys, but this one really got me, the beast is hurt," said the player in one tweet, followed by another, adding "My surgery went well, now it's moving forwards with treatment and rest."

Sandro’s absence will be greatly missed. However, Parker now has the necessary match practice to step back into action.

Speaking to the Independent Parker added his hope for Spurs to push forward, instead of suffering from another mid-season slump.

"It's in everyone's mind because it's happened before. We need to maintain our performances,” said Parker.

"We have some tough fixtures coming up but we've got some players coming back from injury. Hopefully we can freshen it up that way. I'm sure we'll be fine.

"We've lost some world-class players but we've added some too. Maybe we'll learn from the last two years and stay strong."
