Spurs missed out on signing Luis Suarez, and Sherwood is to blame, according to Ruud Gullit.
Sherwood went on a scouting mission to Ajax when Suarez was playing in Holland, but did nothing to stop the Uruguayan from joining Liverpool. Suarez has scored 28 league goals this season.
But speaking to the Daily Mail, Gullit said that Spurs came to see Suarez, but passed on the striker: “I met Sherwood together with Les Ferdinand, they were Harry Redknapp’s assistants at the time and were also his scouts. They asked me all kinds of questions about Suarez, so I just point blank said: “You have to snap him up, without any hesitation, in a heartbeat.”
‘“Well, we’re not sure,” they said whilst they actually watched him play. That’s a huge mistake, if you ask me. Afterwards they said to me: “Well, we might have got it wrong.”’
Now Spurs boss, Sherwood must come up with a game plan to stop Suarez scoring against them on Sunday. Tottenham travel to Anfield, 7 points adrift of 4th placed Arsenal. Whilst the club are looking for revenge for the 5-0 drubbing they received by the Reds at White Hart Lane, Sherwood must find a way to stop a threatening Liverpool side, are who are in with a chance of winning the title.
