Midfielder Adam Lallana has undoubtedly been the brightest star of Southampton’s season and there are already reports that Tottenham will try to prize him away from St. Mary’s this summer.
The 25 year-old started the year on the fringes of the England squad, but after amassing nine goals and six assists in 37 Premier League outings, he’s now widely expected to make Roy Hodgson’s starting XI in Brazil.
A skilful yet energetic playmaker, Lallana’s North London arrival would certainly address Tottenham’s lack of dynamism and ingenuity going forward this season. He can furthermore adopt a variety of roles in the middle of the park, most predominantly on either wing or as a supporting striker.
Also alleged as the kingpin behind Southampton’s high-pressing game which has brought them so much success under Pochettino, the Argentine will undoubtedly be keen to bring the England international with him to White Hart Lane in a bid to imprint his own philosophy on the first team.
But the Saints will be keen to hold onto their academy product and Tottenham are by no means his only suitors; due to Lallana’s sensational form and emergence on the Three Lions scene, he’s been linked with virtually every club above Southampton in the Premier League table.
Spurs could have a unique advantage however – according to the tabloids, they’re prepared to use wayward winger Andros Townsend as a bargaining chip to bring the St. Mary’s star to North London
