Spurs face fight for Dutch manager

Tottenham will face competition in their attempt to make Louis van Gaal their new manager, reports the Mirror.

Tim Sherwood’s time at White Hart Lane looks over, with Spurs’ 4-0 loss to Liverpool on the weekend the final nail in the coffin. Sherwood came in after the Reds beat the London club 5-0 at White Hart Lane, Andre Villas-Boas’ final match in charge.

But results haven’t improved enough for the club, who look set to miss out on a top 4 finish, and are currently 6th, and behind Everton in the race for the Champions League. But some fans were at least enjoying reports that the club would approach Louis van Gaal over the managerial position next summer.

However, Spartak Moscow are also interested in the Dutch manager, and are preparing a lucrative offer to tempt him away from London. van Gaal is currently the Netherlands manager, and will leave his post after the World Cup, where he will then listen to offers.

But the 62-year-old is also interested in monitoring the situation at Old Trafford, with pressure mounting on David Moyes. van Gaal doesn’t want to commit to a club without knowing if there is a chance of applying for the position at Manchester United.
