Striker thought to favour Tottenham move

Christian Benteke

Christian Benteke is holding out for a move to Tottenham this summer, although his club Aston Villa feel they would receive more money from Chelsea according to the Daily Mail.

Spurs are the favourites to sign the 22-year-old, who has recently handed in a transfer request at Villa Park. However, manager Paul Lambert is adamant he won’t sell the forward for below the £25million asking price.

It is thought Tottenham chairman Daneil Levy is holding out until the end of the window in order to try and sign the Belgian forward on the cheap. Chelsea are also thought to be interested, and would be able to afford the asking price.

Villa have made it clear to Tottenham they will not sell below the asking price, and are not interested in any part-exchange offers. It is understood the Midlands club were disappointed with the value they got when agreeing a loan deal for Jermaine Jenas with Tottenham, and are in no hurry to do the club any favours.

Villa are hoping Chelsea will make a move, as they would be able to offer the full asking price as well as the possibility of a swap deal that would see Benteke’s Belgian and Premier League compatriot Romelu Lukaku arrive at Villa Park.

Benteke however is keen on a move to Tottenham, as it would give him the opportunity to play as a first choice centre forward in a season leading up to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
