When Christian Eriksen signed for Spurs in August 2013, teams across Europe must of been kicking themselves. He was one of the newest, most exciting youngsters coming through the ranks at Ajax, with comparisons with Michael Laudrup already being made.

When you consider the eye for talent that Ajax have, with players such as Patrick Kluivert, Wesley Sneijder, Johan Cryuff and Dennis Bergkamp to name but a few.

The Amsterdam based outfit looked to have created another great talent in the Dane, who had scored 25 goals in 113 appearances. Now at Tottenham, he carries the team with him. His flexibility anywhere along the front line is something that makes him so highly rated, being able to play on either wing or just behind the striker.

More often that not, it has been his talent and ability to produce excitement from nothing which has not only helped to propel Harry Kane into the limelight, but also make Tottenham a title chasing side. Now sitting second in the league, Tottenham are fighting for their first Premier League crown, and that is partly down to Eriksen's consistency.

In his 26 appearances this season, he has not only scored five goals but contributed with eight assists. Throughout his Tottenham career, he has helped to score goals when the side most need it, and looks to be the closest replacement to Bale that they have got.

Considering just how creative he is, it is no wonder that the big teams are sniffing around him. Even before moving to Ajax, he had taken trials with Barcelona, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United and AC Milan. When you look at those squads, Eriksen could easily fit in any of them.

Although he may not be one of the 'world class' players, he certainly is one of the most exciting. With Tottenham not being involved in the Champions League at all since Eriksen arrived in north London, it is a surprise that they have managed to keep hold of him for as long as they have.

While there doesn't appear to have been no open bids for the Dane, he still attracts the attention. With it seemingly likely that Spurs will be performing in Europe's top level next season, it is only a matter of time before the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona come in for him.

At the age of 24, he still has a lot of his career ahead of him, and has sensibly chosen to build up his skills and reputation at great clubs. Ajax and Spurs have a great history of nurturing young talent, and with Eriksen it is looking no different.

Even though he may not be part of a great national side like Laudrup was, or won any major trophies, his time will come and he will soon be a great player. Whether that be at Tottenham or elsewhere, one thing is for certain; this Dane will still dazzle.
