Jermain Defoe is set to bid an emotional farewell to Tottenham fans at White Hart Lane tonight, even though he is not playing, reports the Daily Star.

Tottenham’s record European goal scorer is ruled out of tonight’s return leg with Dnipro with a hamstring problem.

The striker will therefore bid farewell to the fans at half time, before he jets off to secure his move to MLS side Toronto.

Defoe will leave White Hart Lane with an impressive record of 91 goals for the club over two spells.

Boss Tim Sherwood said: “Jermain Defoe is possibly – along with Jimmy Greaves – one of the best goal-scorers this club has ever seen.

“Let’s hope we can find another one like Jermain Defoe because he always played with all his heart whenever he put on the shirt. He will certainly be a legend at this football club.”Sherwood is set to keep the faith with £26m striker Roberto Soldado for tonight’s clash. The Spaniard has come under fire of late for his failure to take a number of clear chances.

He has managed just one league goal from open play all season, since completing his big money switch from Valencia last summer.
