News of the Slovenia international’s decision to take his name out of the winter transfer mêlée which will soon reach chaotic peaks towards the end of January, will be grim reading for Spurs who have been linked with the player in the past.
Instead, Ilicic has opted to wait until the summer before weighing up his options of a move away from the Rosanero.
The player – having scored four goals in eight Serie A games this season – has been the centre of much transfer speculation, with the two Milan teams included on his list of admirers.
However it is believed that the player is not interested in a hasty departure away from Sicily, ruling out a January move.
Amir Ruznic, the player’s representative, reiterated today that Ilicic will not consider a hurried end to his Italian career.
“I have said it many times and I say it again: ‘Ilicic will not leave Palermo’,” said Amir Ruznic responding to speculation over a move in January.
“Maurizio Zamparini will not sell him at any price. He is too important,” Ruznic continued.
“In the summer we will sit down and look at the offers.
“Ilicic wants to stay in Italy. Serie A is his first choice.”
