Spurs are looking to pip Arsenal and Manchester United to the Frenchman’s signature, but had a £15.8million bid rejected by Rela Sociedad. The Spanish side are refusing to sell Griezmann unless his £23.9million release clause is met.
The Frenchman made 5 appearances in the World Cup after a strong season in La Liga, where he scored 16 goals for Sociedad. And as well as catching the eye of the 3 Premier League sides, Monaco and Bayern Munich are both reportedly interested too.
The Bundesliga champions are keen on replacing Xherdan Shaqiri with Griezmann, whilst Monaco are eyeing the Frenchman to fill the gap left by James Rodriguez. Both Shaqiri and James are expected to depart the respective clubs this transfer window.
Griezmann could become Tottenham’s first signing of the summer, as Mauricio Pochettino looks to build his new Tottenham squad. But Spurs will have to pay the full £23.9million should they wish to capture the 23-year-old.
Spurs had a disappointing season last year, and are on their third manager in just 7 months. Andre Villas-Boas was sacked in December after poor results, whilst Spurs parted company with Tim Sherwood in May after the Premier League season finished.
New boss Pochettino drew his first game in charge of the club 3-3 with Seattle Sounders.
