New Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is ready to give £30m flop Erik Lamela another chance at White Hart Lane after rejecting interest from Juventus in his signature, according to reports from The Mirror.
The Argentine attacker became Spurs’ record buy last summer as a part of the club’s ill-fated £110m spend, but he failed to live up to his price tag and reputation throughout the season.
After some initial outings in the Premier League and Europa League, Lamela dipped off of the radar in north London with a series of niggling back injuries limiting his playing time.
Reports also indicated that he had failed to settle at Tottenham, and that a move back to Italy – where he has starred for Roma – was his desire in January.
It was expected that the man once compared to Lionel Messi would get his supposed wish this summer, but with Juve’s loan offer with a view to a full £15m transfer having been rejected, it appears that Pochettino is keen to keep his compatriot.
The ex-Southampton chief is thought to have spoken to Lamela about his role, and is willing to give him more playing time in a bid to help him rediscover his form.
