Spurs have been without a manager since sacking their much-criticised coach shortly after the 2013/14 season closed, and have been linked with a host of top names including now Manchester United chief Louis van Gaal and Frank de Boer.
But Pochettino is seen as chairman Daniel Levy’s preferred target, with the Argentine having impressed since taking over the Saints in 2013.
Reports now suggest that Tottenham have been talking to the former Espanyol manager after getting permission to do so from the Hampshire outfit, and that an announcement could be made in the coming days.
A four-year deal is on the cards, and the London club are thought to be willing to back Pochettino in the transfer market after being impressed with the style of football he promoted at Southampton.
De Boer is still in the frame, but the Ajax gaffer is now seen as a back-up option.
Pochettino’s potential arrival could open the door for Jay Rodriguez to move to White Hart Lane.
