Tottenham consider January move for Sporting Lisbon ace

Sporting Lisbon's Ricky van WolfswinkelTottenham are considering a January move to bring Sporting Lisbon striker Ricky Van Wolfswinkel to the Premier League, according to The Metro.

The Dutchman has been prolific in front of goal since joining the Portuguese giants in 2011, netting an impressive 29 times in 53 appearances.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is short on attacking options, with only Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor available in the central forward position.

This has led him to consider the 23-year-old, who may be available in January as talks surrounding a new contract with Jose Alvalade Stadium-based club stall.

According to reports in the Portuguese press the Van Wolfswinkel’s agent Louis Laros is set to discuss a renewed deal and if an agreement cannot be reached he will press for a winter move away from the club.

AVB is believed to be a long-term admirer of the forward, having attempted to sign him when at former club Porto.

Sporting are confident of keeping their man, but a bid in the region of £8m could be enough to secure his signature.

Van Wolfswinkel started his career with Vitesse Arnhem before switching to Eredivisie rivals Utrecht in 2009.

With a goal scoring average of almost one-in-two, Sporting paid a rumoured £5m for his services.
