Tottenham are ready to launch an ambitious £17m move for Schalke’s Julian Draxler, according to reports from The Metro.

Bitter rivals Arsenal were heavily linked with the German playmaker both last year and in January, but failed to tie up a deal despite entering negotiations with the Gelsenkirchen side.

And with the Gunners now having seemingly tied up a £30m move for Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez, Spurs are believed to be ready to step up their pursuit of the Germany international.

Reports suggest that Mauricio Pochettino has made Draxler one of his top targets ahead of the new season and has sanctioned a £17m offer.

This fee is some way off of the £30m+ Schalke are said to have demanded over the winter, but it may just be a starting point in talks between the clubs.

The 20-year-old said earlier this summer that he expects to be at the Veltins-Arena next season, yet a big offer from the Londoners may be enough to sway his decision.
