Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen on Inter Milan midfielder Ricardo Alvarez, according to reports from The Metro.

The former Southampton chief recently took over in the White Hart Lane dugout from Tim Sherwood, and is thought to have drawn up a list of transfer targets for the coming months with sporting director Franco Baldini.

Alvarez is rumoured to be close to the top of the pile, with Pochettino a fan of his compatriot.

The 26-year-old has been a major hit in Italian football since his 2011 arrival from Velez Sarsfield, settling into Inter’s first-team well.

Spurs are said to be willing to take advantage of the situation, with an £8m offer being prepared in north London.

However other suitors may begin to circle Alvarez as he prepares for action at the World Cup.

‘Ricky’ could play a big role for Argentina, and his future is unlikely to be resolved until the competition finishes.
