Tottenham may have to see off interest from Napoli if they are to keep hold of star midfielder Christian Eriksen, according to reports from TuttoMercato.

The Danish playmaker only arrived at White Hart Lane a year ago, and is largely seen as the only successful buy of the ill-fated £110m spend during Andre Villas-Boas’ reign.

After a slow start at White Hart Lane Eriksen blossomed in the Spurs first-team, becoming the creative hub at the back end of the season.

This appears to have alerted Napoli chief Rafa Benitez, who is ready to make a move for the silky passer.

The 22-year-old is seen as a top quality addition as Chelsea target Jose Callejon nears a move away from Naples to join Atletico Madrid, and the Italians have been buoyed by claims that the former Ajax man may not be staying in north London for too long.

Eriksen has already hinted that Tottenham is a stepping-stone for his career by saying that he has a long-term “secret plan”.

Spurs are unlikely to be willing to sell already, but Napoli may still mount a serious offer to tempt the Scandinavian.

no we aren’t going to get top 4, I want us to, but I don’t see it. With the sort of dinero we have lavished over the last 4 or so seasons we are are borderline epic failure, the expense coupled with poor manager choices and knee jerk reaction we are fast becoming the class jokers. I want MoPo to succeed because I love my club, however I don’t think this fella is the answer though and the reason, well apart from him having 6 of the most highly sought after footballers at his disposal last season and only guiding them to 8th (and this was behind a team lead by David Moyes) and him also being the manager with said players who lost the most premier league points from winning positions, he thinks that 2 of the worst of the 6 will be an improvement to our team who finished 6th with a manger we don’t consider good enough despite him being a manager who tactically outsmarted MoPo with a defence as shoddy as ours was last season. When you consider that 75% of Southamptons defence have moved or are moving on to top 4 clubs, it kinda leaves you scratching your head as to how he will be the man to regularly get us into the top 4, philosophy or not.

    Utter rubbish.

    Napoli: £20m for Erikson.
    Levy: Nah
    Napoli: £25m last offer
    Levy: £75m or feck off.

    Massive fight :(

Napoli have no power over us. Real, Barca, hell even Man U. Napoli lol
