Erik Lamela is ready to show Tottenham’s fans what he can do after a disappointing opening to his career at White Hart Lane.
The Argentine was, arguably, the worst signing of last summer as he failed to make any impact for Spurs despite costing them a club record £30m.
Once compared to Lionel Messi, Lamela arrived from Roma with a burgeoning reputation, but injury problems and failure to settle to London saw him slide away from the first-team.
A move back to Italy was expected, but Lamela is set to stay with Tottenham to play under compatriot Mauricio Pochettino.
The 22-year-old has featured heavily for the Lilywhites during their pre-season exploits, and he says that he is ready to show what he can do when the new campaign kicks off:
“I am happy with my situation because I had a long injury and now I can train normally,” he told Tottenham’s club website.
“The tour went well and I feel good.
“This pre-season is very important for me, for my fitness and I’m hoping for a big year.
“I think I can play better than I did last season and I hope this happens for me and for the Spurs fans. I would love to do well for them.”
