Tottenham are ready to resist offers for Jan Vertonghen to keep him at White Hart Lane, according to reports from Sky Sports.

The Belgian centre-back was some way off of his best last season, and recent speculation has suggested that he wants a switch away from north London in search of Champions League action.

Manchester City were linked with a move for his signature, while Napoli and Barcelona have been the sides most strongly aligned with the classy enforcer in recent weeks.

But now it is understood that Tottenham are not prepared to sell their man, and will fight hard to ensure that he stay’s in north London.

The 27-year-old only joined the Lilywhites in 2012 from Ajax, and still has four years to run on his contract.

Spurs are yet to receive any formal approaches for Vertonghen, prompting talk that the club will be successful in their aims.

The World Cup star may also be further tempted to stay after another rumoured ‘wantaway’ star in the shape of Hugo Lloris committed to a long-term deal at the Lane.
