Tottenham are set to move for Ibrahim Affelay, after Barcelona boss Tata Martino admitted that he could leave the Nou Camp this month.
The Dutch playmaker has endured a tough spell with the Catalan club since joining them from PSV Eindhoven in 2011, with a series of injuries and a loan spell at Schalke preventing him from cementing a starting role.
A thigh complaint has seen him out of action for the last five months, but he is set to return to full strength soon after recovering well from the set-back.
Barca have previously stated their intention to keep the technically gifted playmaker, but now Martino has hinted that he may be allowed to move on:
“Ibrahim is back fit and he looks very strong in training,” He is quoted by The Metro.
“Our plan is that he will stay here, but we can’t rule out an exit. He might leave.”
Tim Sherwood is desperate to ad players to his squad before next week’s deadline, and is thought to see Affelay as a sound investment.
A loan deal is the most likely option, but Spurs may be required to pay a significant fee for a six-month agreement.
