Tottenham Hotspur are currently leading the race to sign highly rated Celtic striker Gary Hooper, according to talkSPORT.

Andre Villas-Boas was at Celtic Park on Tuesday night to see Hooper net twice in Celtic’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Dundee United and is set to make the Englishman his prime transfer target this month.

With Emmanuel Adebayor away on African Cup of Nations duty, Spurs are left with just one senior striker in Jermain Defoe and the England man’s form has massively dipped of late.

Norwich have had two bids rejected this month for Hooper and they are set to offer a final deal to the Glasgow club in order to bring the former Scunthorpe striker back below the border.

In true Tottenham style, Villas-Boas is set to wait until as close to the deadline as possible to pounce for the deadly goalscorer who has rejected Celtic’s most recent contract extension alighting rumours they may cash in on him now.
