Former Tottenham Hotspur great Graham Roberts is furious with Emmanuel Adebayor’s contribution to the side so far this season.
Roberts scored in Tottenham’s 1984 UEFA Cup winning final and made over 200 appearances for the North London side between 1980 and 1986.
The former England international has put the boot in to Adebayor and has claimed that he has let the fans and the team down so far this season.
The Togo striker has just returned from an unsuccessful African Cup of Nations and may have to deputise for the injured Jermain Defoe in the coming weeks.
Adebayor has scored just twice this season in 14 appearances since he made his switch to White Hart Lane permanent in the summer despite impressing during a season long loan from Manchester City last season.
Roberts has claimed that he knows exactly what Adebayor needs from Andre Villas Boas – A kick up the backside.
“Adebayor has to do more,” Roberts told talkSPORT.
“He’s a centre forward, he has to score 20 goals a season. If you’re going to qualify for the Champions League and you’re going to try and win trophies then your strikers have to be scoring goals.
“He’s been disappointing this year. He’s let the supporters down. He’s let the club down and he needs a kick up the backside. That’s what he needs.
“He’s got so much to give because last year he proved it when he was on loan.”
