Tottenham are keen to beat bitter rivals Arsenal to the signature of Loic Remy, according to reports from The Mirror.

The French forward looks destined to leave QPR on a permanent basis in the coming weeks after a successful loan spell at Newcastle, and has been heavily linked with the Gunners.

Arsene Wenger is thought to be ready to trigger his £8m release clause with personal terms understood to have already been settled, but Spurs are ready to steal in.

New Lilywhites chief Mauricio Pochettino wants a top forward to lead his line next term, and was impressed by Remy’s showings last season.

Unlike Arsenal, Tottenham are willing to guarantee the 27-year-old first-team action, which may sway his decision even though Champions League football will not be on offer.

Spurs may also be boosted by QPR’s interest in Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Harry Redknapp is thought to see the Icelandic midfielder as a target, which could open up a swap deal between the clubs to speed up the process.

Tottenham are also willing to hand Remy a pay rise on his £75,000 earnings.
