Emmanuel Adebayor has thanked Tim Sherwood for giving him his “confidence” back after Tottenham booked their spot on the last 16 of the Europa League with a 3-2 aggregate win over Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.
Spurs overcame a 1-0 loss in Ukraine at White Hart Lane with a fine display in which the Togo striker netted twice.
Sherwood’s men looked to be heading for a shock exit until Christian Eriksen scored a fine free-kick and the visitors had Roman Zozulya sent off.
Adebayor has been a major figure for the London club in recent months after being welcomed back into the first-team following Andre Villas-Boas’ exit.
The Portuguese coach forced the experienced front-man to train away from the senior players, but Sherwood has welcomed back into his set-up and made him a vital member of his starting XI.
The ex-Arsenal and Manchester City ace has repaid his manager’s faith with some excellent showings, and he says that he is thankful for the opportunity he’s been given:
“I’m very glad at being on the pitch, scoring goals, playing very well for my team, helping my team and I just have to keep the focus, keep going, keep playing well,” he is quoted by talkSPORT.
“I want to say big thanks for the new gaffer, who came in and gave me my confidence back, gave me the stage to play on.
“Everything’s going well for me, for him and for the club. We just have to keep focused and keep going to the end of the season.”
