Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen confessed the team is looking forward to playing Olympique Lyon in Thursday's Europa League crunch game after having the weekend off competition.

“We will be fresh for the second leg without a game at weekend and we want to do something in Europe”, the Belgian international said The Sun.

Tottenham, previously knocked out of the FA Cup, enjoyed a game-free weekend and the team has been with the mind focused in the second leg of the last-32 European round.

Andre Villas-Boas squad travels to France with the 2-1 advantage achieved in White Hart Lane after Gareth Bale stunned everyone with two late free kicks at the end of both halves.

All the eyes will inevitably be on the Welsh midfielder, to whose level of form Vertonghen surrenders as he has scored the last six goals of the team.

“As a winger that’s unbelievable. I’m glad I’m not playing against him” his team-mate stated.

Despite having more rest than their rivals, Spurs will find in Lyon a team boosted in confidence after walking over mid-table Bourdeaux (4-0) in their last Ligue 1 outing.
