Sandro is one of a few central midfielders at Spurs who have been linked with moves away, but the wrong thing for the club to do at this stage is go through an overhaul of the squad – they’ve done that and it proved wholly unsuccessful. Sandro will need to regain the level of performance he brought to the team before he was struck down with long-term injury. The Brazilian has all the tools to properly protect the back four.
Last season, Andre Villas-Boas used an ineffective system in which three like-minded midfielders were deployed, though each unable to set the tempo for the team or carve out goal scoring chances on a consistent basis.
Sandro was then dropped by Tim Sherwood and will now have to earn his place back in the team. If the Brazilian can re-establish himself as the team’s best defensive midfielder, he won’t have any trouble doing so.
