Jan Vertonghen is ready to discover the identity of Tottenham’s new manager before deciding whether or not to leave the club this summer, according to reports from The Metro.

The Belgian defender has been strongly linked with a move away from White Hart Lane in recent months after growing disillusioned with life in the white half of north London after missing out on Champions League qualification again.

But with chairman Daniel Levy having wielded his managerial axe to get rid of Tim Sherwood earlier this week, Vertonghen is believed to be having second thoughts.

It is understood that the 27-year-old had a less than fruitful relationship with his former coach, and that his presence had had some sway on his willingness to move on.

Although the centre-back has by no means committed himself to Spurs in the wake of Sherwood’s exit, it is thought that he will wait until the new man in the dugout is known.

Frank de Boer is a rumoured target, while Southampton’s Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with the role and the former, whom Vertonghen worked under at Ajax, may be in a good position to persuade the player to stay.
