Spurs are infamous January negotiators and the White Hart Lane outfit are currently planning potential moves, with Eriksen on the radar.
Belgian centre-back Vertonghen has suggested that the 20-year-old Danish playmaker would be the perfect match for Spurs, having seen the player firsthand from his time at the Amsterdam Arena between 2010 and his move to North London.
“Technically, he’s one of the best players I’ve played with,” said Vertonghen.
Eriksen’s contract expires at the end of the 2013/14 season and the player himself has indicated that he’s likely to depart Ajax in the near future.
Vertonghen’s glowing report on the player includes comments on his durability, stating that “Since he was 17 or 18 he has played so many games for Ajax and hardly ever been injured.” The Belgian then continued by predicting, “When he gains a bit more physical strength, then I think he can play in any team.”
Although the Spurs centre-back was reluctant to put words in the young Danish player’s mouth, wanting only to eulogise his talents. “I don’t want to speak for him but he is a good player, and I think a good player can play here.” (Daily Mail)
Whilst the Lilywhites haven’t had a catastrophic time adapting to life without Luka Modric after his departure to Real Madrid, Spurs are still on the lookout for a playmaker to fill the huge void left by the Croatian. A young prospect could be the perfect candidate for January, with little expectation put on his immediate impact, but a lot of hope that his adaptation to Andre Villas-Boas’ style of play will be seamless in 2013/14.
