Tottenham midfielder Lewis Holtby has hit out at suggestions that the club are reliant on Gareth Bale.
The Welsh winger almost single-handedly slayed Newcastle at the weekend, with his two strikes earning the Londoners a 2-1 home win.
Bale has also been pivotal in a number of other games of late, with goals helping them claim vital points in the two matches prior to their victory over the Magpies.
This has led to suggestions that the White Hart Lane-based outfit are reliant on their wide man, but Holtby believes that the rest of the players in the squad deserve just as much credit:
“Gareth is a world-class player, one of the best in the world I think. What he is producing week in week out is fantastic.” He is quoted by The Mirror.
“But you have to give the credit to the others in what is a great team.”
“You see Hugo Lloris in goal. The defenders put their bodies into every shot. Everyone is working really hard, that’s the key of the game. To have a player like Bale makes the difference.”
Bale’s latest goals took his tally to 15 this season, just two fewer than strikers Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe combined.
Holtby is happy to see his team-mate playing well, but says that the work of everybody in the squad is helping him take the headlines:
“Of course Gareth scores goals, he is perfect for us. But you have every player in the team who works hard for the club.
