The former Everton trainee has dropped off of the radar since his 2012 move to the Etihad Stadium, with a series of injuries and the presence of a number experienced rival players having limited his playing time.
A move away from City this summer has been mooted in recent months, with a return to Goodison Park – whom he nearly joined in January – seen as the most likely option.
But now West Brom chief Irvine is keen to pursue a season-long loan deal for the 23-year-old.
The new Baggies boss knows Rodwell from his tie working behind the scenes at Everton, and says that he is a fan of the youngster:
“He was a Rolls Royce as a kid but I don’t know his situation.
“Jack’s a very good player. He’s had some injury problems but is a talented player.”
West Brom struggled against relegation during the end of last season, and Irvine is said to be desperate to bring in top quality additions to bolster the squad he inherited from Pepe Mel.
