West Ham and Newcastle are ready to test Arsenal’s willingness to keep hold of Carl Jenkinson as Callum Chambers edges toward his switch to the Emirates Stadium, according to reports from The Express.
The Gunners are understood to have agreed a £16m fee with Southampton for the teenage right-back, who will become fellow signing Mathieu Debuchy’s back-up man if the deal does indeed go through.
With the two full-backs in, Arsene Wenger may no longer need Jenkinson, which has alerted the Hammers and the Magpies.
Both clubs have been monitoring the one-time England international for some time, and have been buoyed by developments.
The 22-year-old may well be available on loan as Wenger looks to further assess the former Charlton man, which would appeal to both clubs.
Newcastle have an obvious need for him after selling Debuchy to Arsenal, while West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is known to be looking at getting more technically adept players in as he looks to implement a more attractive style at Upton Park.
