After last season's impressive seventh place finish in the Premier League, West Ham have come down with a bit of a bump so far in this campaign.

Eliminated in the Europa League play-offs and earning only three points from their first three games this season has left the club licking it's wounds going into the international break, but it's not all doom and gloom just yet.

It's easy to see that the club are struggling with players like Dimitri Payet, Andy Carroll and Manuel Lanzini all missing at least at some point this season - many clubs would feel this loss - and when they're back it'll be easier to see where exactly the club is heading.

In their new stadium they have the chance to reach the next level and that's competing in Europe regularly, but Slaven Bilic might feel despite some of his key players still waiting to come back that he needs to get in some extra bodies.

Here then are five Bundesliga stars he should perhaps be weighing up...

Rafinha

Rafinha

West Ham went with three at the back against Manchester City at the weekend with Michail Antonio acting as a wing-back on the right side.

There's no doubt Antonio is a good player but he's better utilised going forward so the Hammers could do with bringing in a more orthodox right back.

Rafinha would be just that man and may be available with the emergence of Joshua Kimmich at Bayern Munich.

Holger Badstuber

James Collins is enjoying somewhat of a renaissance this season at centre-half for West Ham but you could argue that the London club should be looking for better options than the Welshman.

Badstuber would certainly provide that and given, like Rafinha, he doesn't play much for champions Bayern Munich, he could be available for a cut price fee. He's played at the very highest level and that's where West Ham are aiming to be.

Tin Jedvaj

The young Bayer Leverkusen centre-half played 15 times in the Bundesliga last season and could see his progress halted by the emergence of Jonathan Tah at the club.

Whatever happens his talent cannot be ignored and he may just benefit from working with Slaven Bilic, given that they share the same nationality and position on the pitch.

Leon Goretzka

To reach the next step the Hammers need a player that can pull strings in midfield at the highest level. It's astonishing to look at the amount of talent Germany have coming through now in that area and Leon Goretzka is just one prime example so he should be looked at.

Whereas the likes of Julian Weigl at Dortmund would cost quite a lot, Goretzka is at Schalke and that may mean the Hammers could get him for less.

Timo Horn

Adrian is a decent Premier League goalkeeper but if West Ham are honest, to reach the next level they need someone better and Timo Horn might just be the answer to this issue.

The German is a very good goalkeeper that can use his feet well too, an increasingly important trait in modern goalkeeping. He's currently at FC Cologne and would likely be available if West Ham wanted him enough.
