Rumours over the last few days have been in overdrive. With so many transfers happening every day it is hard to keep up!

One such chunk of speculation surrounds the future of AZ Alkmaar striker Vincent Janssen and regards his future with the Dutch side.

Over the last few days it had appeared that Tottenham were front runners for the striker, with a number of bids put in for the player, though each was ultimately unsuccessful.

West Ham have also linked with the striker, and giving the amount of money they have been offering for players so far in the window; it would not be a surprise to see the side go for the talented front man.

Here are FIVE reasons why the Hammers should do all they can to beat Spurs to this striker...

Availability

First and foremost, the striker is looking for a way out of current club AZ.

Following a number of rejected bids from Tottenham he has suggested that he was very disappointed in his club's decision, and whilst he wants to leave the side amicably; it feels that his time at the club is at an end.

Whilst of course his primary target is Tottenham, there is a chance that the side may not be willing to go in for the striker at a higher price; leaving the door open for West Ham to steal the deal.

The main stumbling block will be the transfer fee, with Janssen open to a move to London.

Low Cost

In terms of that transfer fee, Janssen's mooted fee remains significantly lower than the numbers that West Ham have been throwing around whilst they search for new strikers this summer.

Names like Alexandre Lacazette have been reported in the British press alongside bids of around the £30m mark - a huge sum of money for a player that remains relatively unproven.

Janssen on the other hand would be available for around €18m, which comparatively is a much smaller fee.

Whilst the sum is much lower, West Ham will definitely not be sacrificing on quality.

Goal Scoring Record

On a basic level, you only have to look at Janssen’s goalscoring record to see just how much quality he has.

In his first year with AZ he managed to bag a mouth-watering 27 league strikes, making him the Eredivisie's top goal scorer. An incredible record.

Having such a great goalscoring return at just 22 definitely means the sky is the limit for this young striker.

Quick Adjustment

Another feature of that record that most might not realize is that he managed to score all those goals in his first season in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Of course he is Dutch and so would have acclimatised more quickly; but that doesn’t take away from his achievement.

Typically when a player joins the Premier League, even young English players, they take a year or two to really establish themselves in the side and reach their best form.

If the past career of Janssen is taken into account; there may be no need for such an adjustment period if West Ham sign the striker, meaning an immediate return on their investment.

Cannot Rely On Current Strikers

What is clear is that West Ham definitely need to invest in more attacking talent.

For as good as Andy Carroll is; his inconsistent fitness means that he cannot be relied on as a player that can be played week in week out as a No.9.

Clearly this is a sentiment that the West Ham bosses agree with; given that they have spent the first half of this summer seeking offensive reinforcements in players like Alexandre Lacazette.

For all the reasons listed here, perhaps most notably his fantastic goal scoring record; Vincent Janssen would be a striker that the side COULD rely on.
