Ravel Morrison has been a problem for West Ham since his arrival at the club in 2012, having spent two loan spells away from the London club in that time.

Though talented, trouble always seems to follow the former Manchester United midfielder, with Morrison now denied bail after accusations of assault.

His transfer saga of last January should have been an indicator to West Ham that it was time to move on from the troubled 21-year-old, but this latest incident should be his final act as a player on the club’s books.

With West Ham having already completed some promising transfer business thus far, he’s a look at six options who could be considered replacements for Morrison at Upton Park.

Jack Rodwell

Jack Rodwell

There has been much said about Jack Rodwell and his need to move on from Manchester City, and yet he remains on the books of the club, with others in the Premier League seemingly only expressing fleeting interest.

But at 23, the former Everton midfielder has plenty left to offer and can still become one of England’s key players in the near future. He’s a powerful central midfielder who can inspire his team, as seen from his time on Merseyside.

What he now needs is a manager who will place faith in him once again and return him to his best. Moving on from the disappointing two years at City is a must for Rodwell, and West Ham could stand to gain a lot from a player looking to get his career back on track.

Scott Sinclair

Sinclair

Scott Sinclair would do well to find himself a move away from Manchester City this summer, with two years having been wasted at the Etihad Stadium following his move from Swansea.

The winger managed to get his career going at the Welsh club after moving on from Chelsea, and is now in need of a similar restart. He’s well suited to the Premier League, but needs regular games, especially at this point in his career.

With so many attacking options at City, especially now with Stevan Jovetic back from injury, there simply isn’t a future for him in Manchester.

Ashley Young

Poor form of widemen

If Louis van Gaal ends up bringing in another winger at Manchester United, Ashley Young may be one of the player’s shown the door at Old Trafford.

The England international has already been linked with a move away, with West Ham sounding out their interest, and due to his poor recent form for United, Young may be wise to attempt to restart his career elsewhere.

What he needs, evidently, is the trust of a manager, because the talent is clearly there. If he can rediscover his Aston Villa form, he’d be a fantastic signing for West Ham.

Wilfried Zaha

Wilfried Zaha

Wilfried Zaha has had far from a settled career since moving to Manchester United, with the club currently with their third manager since the winger’s signing from Crystal Palace in January last year.

Zaha went out on loan to Cardiff for the second of last season in order to gain game time, but he has thus far failed to clarify where his future lies.

West Ham have been tipped as a destination for the winger, who very much needs to secure a move away from Old Trafford, even if it’s for the short term, in order to get regular games.

Zaha has shown plenty of promise in his short career, and he would be a good addition to Sam Allardyce’s squad.

Serge Gnabry

Serge Gnabry

It’s been easy to forget about Serge Gnabry at Arsenal considering their transfer activity this summer, but the German winger clearly has a bright future ahead of him, having made several first-team appearances last season.

Gnarby may struggle to get regular games this season due to the options available to Arsene Wenger, so a loan move would be best for his immediate future.

He’s a skilful winger who looks comfortable in the Premier League. At times last season, he was Arsenal’s best player, particularly in a period where they struggled for inspiration in attack.

He’s certainly good enough to be a first-team regular at West Ham.

Samuel Eto’o

Samuel Eto'o

Samuel Eto’o has emerged as a surprise target for West Ham this summer, and could prove to be a good addition, even if it’s only for a season.

The former Chelsea striker has been known to play in a withdrawn role off the forward during his time in Russian football and could offer the same to Sam Allardyce’s side.

Though not the same player he was while in Spain and Italy, Eto’o can be effective in the Premier League, despite all his goals for Chelsea last season coming at Stamford Bridge.

At this stage of his career, he’d prove to be a very smart addition at West Ham, with Allardyce having a history of signing veteran stars from Europe during his time as Bolton manager.
