A good finish in the league table this season should mean Sam Allardyce retains the backing of the West Ham board and is rewarded with a strong transfer budget to address the weaknesses in the team.

These past two league games for West Ham have ended in disappointment for one reason or another, but there are positives to take from this season, notably in the impressive defensive displays early on and the fight back during the second half of the season to escape the threat of relegation.

But with West Ham in need of strengthening their position mid-table ahead of the move to the Olympic Stadium, the club would do well do dip into the free agent market this summer. There are players with expiring contracts across Europe who are more than good enough to make a difference at the club.

If Liverpool pick up Diame, it means they won’t be pursuing Grzegorz Krychowiak. We should pick him up from the Diame funds.
