West Ham have never really been blessed with a great deal of fortune when it comes to signing marquee strikers, and subsequently witnessing them spend most of their time at Upton Park injured on the side-lines. For one reason or another, the plucky Hammers just don’t seem to receive a great deal of luck in that department.

From frustratingly forgotten figures of yesteryear like the fearless Dean Ashton, to more recent strikers spending most of their time on the treatment table as opposed to out on the pitch, such as the ever-injured Andy Carroll of course, West Ham seemingly have to battle every passing Premier League campaign with a great deal less fire power up-top than the club initially expected.

Now that last season’s marquee front-man, Ecuador international Enner Valencia, has become the latest in a long-line of Hammers strikers to face a lengthy lay-off before the new season has even begun, David Sullivan and David Gold truly have a hefty task on their plate this summer as they look to amend the club’s current predicament.

However, as the mid-season transfer window still remains reliably open ahead of the 2015/16 campaign, there are several big name targets out there who could still find themselves on the move this summer – with Manchester United in particular playing host to a certain little Mexican, who could eventualy prove the answer to West Ham’s striking worries next term…

As there simply aren’t a great deal of Mexican internationals successfully plying their trade in the Premier League in this day and age, the previous statement ultimately regards Javier Hernandez, and his apparent lack of future at Old Trafford next season.

Whilst only he and Wayne Rooney remain the obvious striking options for Louis van Gaal going into the new term, the Red Devils have simply never been a club ready to rest on their laurels with a conservative approach in the transfer market. On the contrary, now that Dutch front-man, Robin van Persie, has eventually joined up with Fenerbahce in the Turskish Super Lig, Manchester United have every reason to go out this summer and source themselves an adequate replacement in the striking department.

The long-standing Premier League club really wouldn’t have it any other way.

So then, with a series of big name stars all being linked with high profile moves to Old Trafford this summer, West Ham’s desire to swoop in for Javier Hernandez will seemingly be made a great deal easier sooner rather than later.

The east end club have been heavily linked with signing the impressive Mexican for a good while now, in light of Chicharito’s decent, yet somewhat understated, offering at the Bernabeu last season. Whilst the determined 27-year-old has never quite managed to tie down a regular first team place at either Manchester United or Real Madrid in recent campaigns, the widely admired ‘super-sub’ has nonetheless impressed many since first being introduced into the European footballing scene.

When it comes to linking up effectively with his teammates in the final third, scoring vital goals at just the right moments, and simply finding himself at the right place, and the right time over and over again throughout his spell in the English top-flight – Javier Hernandez has rarely disappointed. The Mexican international seemingly resides in the kind of category that you just don’t often see a great deal these days, for he is certainly a Michael Owen-type poacher, as opposed to a distinct centre-forward or out-in-out wide-man.

As West Ham are currently looking to undergo a period of transition from the not so attractive days under Sam Allardyce, to a whole new brand of entertaining football supposedly being ushered in by Slaven Bilic, a player of Javier Hernandez’ overall skill-set could be just the thing the Upton Park faithful need next season in order to secure further success down the line.

Before the club eventually move onto London’s Olympic Stadium in 2016 and finally leave the Boleyn Ground behind, West Ham need to become a much more impressive side to watch, yet an equally resilient outfit who won’t fear the threat of relegation with every passing campaign.

With Chicharito potentially proving the ideal man to finish off the plays at Upton Park alongside fellow new-boy, Dimitri Payet, and last season’s surprise hero, Diafra Sakho, though, the future ultimately could look a great deal brighter, even considering the club’s latest injuries in the striking department.

Therefore, whilst West Ham have also reportedly set their sights on QPR’s Charlie Austin this summer, Javier Hernandez arguably represents a more suitable candidate to help the Hammers out next term, and perhaps even improve Slaven Bilic’s squad considerably – instead of simply making up the numbers at Upton Park.
