West Ham legend Tony Cottee has revealed his delight for the fans, as West Ham United officially announced that the Olympic Stadium will be their new home, despite not wanting to leave Upton Park himself.

The former Hammers' striker, who scored 115 goals during two spells at Upton Park, believes that it's the only way to go if West Ham are to start challenging the big boys.

"I'm really pleased for the fans because at last they have got the chance to look at the plans for the Olympic Stadium, so that they can make an assessment and judgement on whether they are in favour of the move or not." Tony Cottee told Football FanCast.

"The club have obviously had their hands tied a little because of the legal side of things and were unable to talk about the move, but with the announcement on Friday it's a chance for the supporters to look at what the club has got in mind and hopefully the majority or fans will be in favour."

" I don't really want to leave Upton Park, I don't think anybody does. But I think for us to move on to the next level, which is what we all want at West Ham, we need to compete and therefore move into the Olympic Stadium." Cottee added

Cottee was speaking after his Lashings XI side were beaten handsomely in the Molson Coors cup at the Gallagher stadium on Sunday

Former Premier League stars Nigel Winterburn and Frank Sinclair lined up for the Lashings XI alongside television personalities Ralph Little and Max Rushden. But the former pro influence wasn't enough as Maidstone United legends rallied back from three goals down to claim the Molson Coors Cup.
