West Ham are closing in on a stunning deal for released Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o, with reports from Goal indicating that talks are underway.

The Cameroonian veteran – formerly the highest paid footballer on the planet – was cut loose by the Blues recently after just one season in England.

Despite interest from MLS and Middle Eastern sides, as well as a host of European names, the 33-year-old is understood to be keen to stay in the Premier League, and more specifically London.

This has alerted West Ham boss Sam Allardyce, who will be without star forward Andy Carroll for the opening months of the coming season due to injury.

World Cup star Enner Valencia has already been snapped up by the Hammers, but even with the Ecuadorian in, there is a lack of cover in the final third.

Reports state that Eto’o’s agent, Claudio Vigarelli, has met with ‘Big Sam’ to thrash out a deal.

However the African superstar’s wage demands – rumoured to be around £100,000-per-week – may be a stumbling block.

Eto’o has enjoyed a glittering career, winning league titles in Spain and Italy before becoming the world’s top earning player during a brief spell with Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala.

Potentially, another waste of money on a has-been. This is would be like the bad old days of having Harry in charge! Send his taxi back to west London and QPR. ……. I’d rather keep Miaga. Honestly.
