In an exclusive reported by The Daily Express, Newcastle's Aleksandar Mitrovic could be set to leave the club with West Ham looking at him to solve their striking woes this season.

What's the story?

We discussed last week West Ham's attempts to bring Daniel Sturridge to London due to their problems up front - their strikers have only scored two league goals between them all season - and with another heavy defeat in the Premier League this past weekend that situation only becomes more of a problem

One avenue they're looking at according to the Express is Newcastle's Serbia international Mitrovic, a player who hasn't been first choice under Rafa Benitez of late, with Dwight Gayle taking the Championship by storm.

The Express reckon that if West Ham match the fee, £14.5m, that took Mitrovic to the North East in summer 2015 then Benitez could be tempted.

They also think that the Hammers could face competition from fellow Londoners Crystal Palace to secure his signature.

Mitrovic

Why Mitrovic?

Mitrovic has only scored five goals this season but to us, that's impressive, because those goals have come in only five starts.

With Benitez favouring rotation at Newcastle, Mitrovic has had to be patient in the Championship but has taken his chances whenever they've been offered to him.

A move to West Ham would give him the chance to prove he can still do the business for a team in the Premier League after Newcastle's dismal relegation last year.

Mitrovic knows his way to goal, with 83 in 207 career appearances, but has other attributes too - he's strong in the air and has the ability to bring his team-mates into attacks around him.

With Andy Carroll often on the treatment table, Mitrovic would be an excellent option to replace him.
